What Does Chest And Back Pain
Indicate?
There is a very peculiar chest and back pain out there, which
when strikes, totally paralyzes you. Usually the attack is so
vicious that it makes you catch your breath – so painful it is.
This pain will stay sometimes for a few seconds to maximum a
few minutes, time during which you will think it is the end
you. It is an excruciating pain and at that time, you will
think of nothing else other than how to get rid of it.
Learn About The Precordial Catch Syndrome or PCS
Often, when such debilitating chest and back pain occurs, the
first thought would be, ‘Oh God, am I having a heart attack?’
The pain is indeed very similar to what is described as angina;
it differs only in the fact that the chest pain extends to the
lower back painful in stabs that stun you with their
intensity.
Some call this chest and back pain as a ‘catch’ while others
describe it as a ‘stitch in the side’, while still others call
it ‘Texidor’s twinge’. In medical terms, this is termed as
Precordial Catch Syndrome (PCS). One thing that is common to
all those who experience this pain, is that when it goes away
it feels like a bubble has burst and your pain disappears. Even
after the pain goes, there will be a dull ache in the side that
will feel like the ache is just about to come back.
It is not known why the PCS strikes. There are many research
studies looking at what could be the triggers for this problem
with no conclusive results as yet. Though it is often so
painful, it is still labeled as a minor medical problem, which
does not require any medication or precautions.
Those who experience it, will find that this type of chest and
back pain can happen when you are at rest as well as when you
are exercising. It can happen when you are walking normally, or
when you are jog, or when you just plain sit in front of your
computer. As much as you try to standardize the reason why this
chest and back pain strikes, there is no consensus.
Do not ignore this pain whenever it occurs. Even after finding
out that this chest and back pain is termed as PCS and might
not be serious, do not ignore it. It could be sometimes, signs
of other underlying problems which if ignored can turn into
serious medical emergencies. This is so, especially when this
pain is combined with rapid heart beat, hard cough, heavy
chest, difficulty in breathing, radiation of the pain towards
the left arm. Pain is the alarm of the body – never ignore
it.
